Mormon Monday: The Gratitude Edition

2008 February 11
by Elaine

Be grateful.  Count your blessings and gifts and privileges and see just how long that list is.  I imagine that each of you will have difficulties ahead of you.  None of us can avoid them.  But do not despair.  Do not give up.  Look for the sunlight in the clouds.  And be grateful for what you have.

Try to be grateful even when you encounter challenges and problems along the way of life, because you will.  Like everyone else, you will have difficulties to overcome.  But they will not last forever.  And God will not forsake you.

Let a spirit of thanksgiving guide and bless your days and nights.  Work at it.  you will find that it will yield wonderful results.

                                                         ~President Gordon B. Hinckley
                                                           Way to Be! p. 21

Way to Be! was President Hinckley’s second book published by a national publisher (Simon & Schuster).  It is aimed primarily at teens and young adults and their parents.  A~ ripped through it in an hour or so a while back, but I have yet to read it, so I started this morning.  It is a quick read, a good read, and the part about gratitude was really just the gentle reminder I need right now.

President Hinckley’s other “ways to be”:

Be Grateful
Be Smart
Be Involved
Be Clean
Be True
Be Positive
Be Humble
Be Still
Be Prayerful

And George, if you’re out there, Tewt the Newt says hello.

I’m going to work on being grateful rather than grumpy. I’m also working on a prediction request for your fuzzy friend.

While I’m reflecting on all of the blessings that I have in my life I will be watching your blog for travel news. Soon, I hope.
